People who keep their phones on silent share these 9 personality traits

I remember seeing a meme on social media ages ago, it said something along the lines of:

“People who sleep with their phone on silent don’t care about anything in life.”

As someone who has firmly kept their phone on silent for the last 6 years, I’m here to call BS on the theory above.

You see, it’s not that we don’t care about anything, it’s that we care about ourselves and our well-being. People who keep their phones on silent do so for specific reasons, reasons that can be linked to their personality traits.

Want to find out more? Let’s dive into it…

You might be surprised to find out how much a simple phone setting can reveal about a person’s personality!

1) They’re introspective

People who keep their phone on silent tend to be more introspective

They value their inner thoughts and feelings more than the constant chatter of the outside world.

You see, by keeping their phones on silent, they create a space for self-reflection and deep thought – a sanctuary from the bombardment of notifications and calls.

This doesn’t mean they’re unsociable or aloof.

On the contrary, when they do engage, their interactions are often more meaningful and thoughtful, because they’ve taken the time to process and understand their own beliefs and emotions first.

So, if you’re wondering why your friend always has their phone on silent – perhaps they’re just giving themselves a little more time to think.

2) They cherish the moment

I was at the park a few weeks ago having a picnic with a few girlfriends of mine. As we chatted and sipped our glasses of Prosecco, my phone screen lit up.

I ignored it, thoroughly engrossed in the conversation. It lit up again. I turned it over so the screen was facing down – to avoid being distracted further by it.

That’s when my friend asked, “Aren’t you going to check it?”

“No,” I responded, “I don’t want to get sidetracked by texts or notifications. I’m enjoying this conversation, the sunshine, and the greenery all around. Whatever is coming through on my phone can wait until after!”

She found it amusing, but the truth is, I’ve found the quality of my interactions improving since having my phone on silent and tucked away. I’m way more grounded, less stressed, and able to fully focus on what’s happening right in front of me.

3) They’re highly productive

It’s no secret that interruptions can be a major productivity killer. Think about trying to work when you’ve got a houseful of people around you, or little kids constantly calling out your name…it’s not easy!

Now, imagine the number of interruptions caused by the constant buzz and beep of our phones. It’s a wonder we get anything done at all.

So consider this:

People who keep their phones on silent often do it to eliminate these distractions, allowing them to focus on their work and achieve more in less time.

4) They value personal connections

Another trait of people who keep their phones on silent is that they place a high value on their personal connections.

They realize that while our devices keep us connected to the world, they can also create a barrier in our personal relationships.

And let’s be honest, the constant notifications and calls can often distract us from the people right in front of us.

How many times have you been having a conversation, only for the other person to be sneakily keeping an eye on their phone?

By keeping their phones on silent, people like this show respect for their present company and a desire to nurture those relationships.

They’d rather invest their time in meaningful conversations than in responding to the latest text or social media updates.

5) They’re self-assured

There’s a certain level of confidence that comes with keeping your phone on silent. It’s a silent declaration that you’re not constantly available to the world, and that’s okay.

That’s what I love about it – I’m not instantly reachable all the time. I respond when the time is right for me, instead of feeling pressured by every email, text, and phone call that comes my way.

This trait often shows a strong sense of self-assurance and independence.

People like this aren’t swayed by societal expectations of constant availability, choosing instead to set boundaries and prioritize their well-being over speedy responses.

So if you encounter a person with their phone on silent, you might just be dealing with someone who’s very self-assured and confident.

6) They seek tranquility

In our fast-paced, always-on world, silence has become rare.

But for those who keep their phones on silent, it’s a slice of tranquility they’ve managed to carve out for themselves.

Ultimately, they understand the importance of quiet moments. For them, silence isn’t just the absence of noise – it’s a peaceful state of mind that allows them to recharge and rejuvenate.

By choosing to mute their devices, they’re making a conscious decision to create a calm and serene environment for themselves. It’s their way of drowning out the noise of the world and finding a haven of peace amidst the chaos.

So next time you come across someone with their phone on silent, know that they might not just be avoiding interruptions – they might be seeking tranquility.

7) They respect their private time

I remember a time when I was constantly tied to my phone. Work, friends, notifications – everything demanded my immediate attention.

The constant buzz and pings were relentless, leaving me feeling drained and overwhelmed.

That’s when I decided to put my phone on silent. It wasn’t an easy decision; after all, our phones are our lifelines to the world. But I realized that I needed to prioritize my mental wellbeing.

I’ve found that keeping my phone on silent allows me to enjoy my private time without any interruptions.

Whether I’m reading a book, practicing yoga, or just enjoying a quiet moment with a cup of coffee, I can fully immerse myself in the experience.

Those who keep their phones on silent often do so out of respect for their private time. It’s their way of ensuring that they can enjoy their moments of solitude without any disturbances.

8) They’re less anxious

Think about it – when your phone is full of notifications, messages, and missed calls, how do you feel?

Anxious. Stressed. A sense of urgency to respond.

So it makes sense that people who keep their phones on silent often tend to be less anxious. By muting the incessant noise, they reduce the pressure to respond immediately, thereby lowering their stress levels.

But this doesn’t mean they’re oblivious to their responsibilities or commitments.

Instead, they choose to respond in their own time and on their own terms, which helps maintain a sense of calm and control over their lives.

So if you see someone with their phone always on silent, it’s likely they’re simply trying to keep their anxiety levels in check. They’ve found a balance that allows them to stay connected without feeling overwhelmed.

9) They’re mindful

At the heart of all these traits lies one fundamental quality: mindfulness.

People who keep their phones on silent are often more mindful. They have a heightened awareness of their surroundings, their thoughts, and their feelings.

By choosing silence over constant noise, they’re making a conscious decision to live in the present.

They’re not getting swept up in the digital tide; instead, they’re choosing to anchor themselves in the here and now.

The truth is, this mindfulness extends to all areas of their life, making them more attentive, more reflective, and more appreciative of the world around them.

So, if there’s one thing to understand about people who keep their phones on silent, it’s this – they’re not just avoiding noise – they’re embracing mindfulness.

Final thoughts: It’s about balance

Behind the choice of keeping a phone on silent lies a deeper understanding of balance in life.

In an age where technology is a big part of our lives, it’s essential to remember the value of our own space, time, and peace.

So next time you see someone with their phone on silent, don’t assume they’re antisocial or aloof. Instead, look at it as an intentional choice – a choice for balance, mindfulness, and peace amid the noise.
