Have you found yourself having the same dream about someone over and over again?
I know the feeling. A month ago, the same thing happened to me. I was dreaming about a person I didn’t even know I was connected to on such a deep emotional level.
I was wondering why it kept happening and what it meant and tried to explain whether it actually indicated something.
Luckily, I was able to explain the hidden meaning of repeated dreams about the same person.
And now, I’m about to share 10 reasons you repeatedly dream about the same person.
1) You have unresolved issues with this person
Let me share something important about decoding dreams.
Before you start searching for the hidden meaning of your recurring dreams, you have to try and ask yourself some questions about things that are going on in your life.
For instance, have you had a similar dream about someone else?
If you have unresolved issues with a person in your life, it’s likely that the same issues will be present in your dreams. This is because your mind will try to resolve the conflict for you.
So, do you have some unresolved business with this person?
Determine whether you need to talk things out with them or whether there’s some sort of issue you need to deal with.
Why?
Because you might be dreaming about someone else repeatedly because you have unresolved issues with this person.
I’m saying this because that’s what I’ve experienced lately.
I’ve had many dreams where I was fighting with my sister, but it turns out that in real life, we weren’t fighting at all.
However, she still appeared in my dream because we had disagreed on something just before I went to bed.
The reason why I dreamt about her all the time was that she had told me something months ago that still bothered me. But I didn’t know about it and didn’t deal with it, so I kept dreaming about her.
But guess what?
That was why my subconscious always brought that one scene back and made me dream about her every night.
And this applies to people who have unfinished business with you. This can happen to friends, family members, or even enemies.
This can be anything from an argument to justifying a conversation you never had the chance to finish. But every time you dream about this person, it’s because your subconscious wants to resolve this problem.
2) You share a past connection with this person
Is someone from your past popping up in your dreams repeatedly?
Chances are, you two share a special connection.
From an old flame to the friend of a family member – any kind of relationship that has come and gone is fair game for this type of dream.
Your subconscious mind is recollecting all the memories and experiences you had with that person, which can manifest in a dream.
Don’t be surprised if your dreams about this person are accompanied by memories of the past, as this is completely natural.
My strong hunch is that they had a great impact on your life.
You see, I recently had the same dream. I dreamt of a high school friend who I lost connection with many years ago.
After so much time apart, I was surprised by how deeply his presence lingered in my dream. It made me realize the lasting impact this person has on my life.
3) Your subconscious is trying to warn you about something
This one might sound a little bit scary at first, but it is a very common reason why people dream about someone they know.
No, it’s not a ghost or a demon coming to haunt you in your dreams.
It’s much more likely that your subconscious is trying to warn you about something.
For example, if you’re not sure whether you should take the job offer or not, but the person in question keeps appearing in your dreams and repeating the same message over and over again, then it might be a sign that you shouldn’t take this job.
Or maybe this person is warning you against doing something else.
If he or she keeps appearing in your dreams with angry facial expressions and pointing fingers at certain things around him/herself, then it might mean that some serious problems are going on at work or with your family.
And he/she wants to tell you that something needs fixing!
In either way, your subconscious is responsible for regulating your thoughts and feelings, so it might try to warn you about something that is going on in your life.
Maybe you are feeling guilty about something you did, or you have anxiety about something that is happening in your life.
Maybe you are feeling nervous about a relationship you are currently in or don’t want to end.
Why does it happen?
Because your subconscious can tell you that something is wrong, and it might be trying to warn you by bringing up a reoccurring dream about someone you know.
When you are dreaming about someone in this scenario, the dream might not even feature the person at all.
Instead, you might be dreaming about something that happened in the past or something that is currently happening in real life.
But here’s the thing: if someone from your past appears in your dreams on a regular basis and gives messages like these but doesn’t appear happy about them, then it’s a clear sign that your mind.
It wants you to be careful because you have anxiety over something else and you don’t know what is this something for now.
4) You’re trying to manifest something in real life through your dreams
Ever heard anything about manifestation?
If you’re into the spiritual world, chances are that you have.
Because it’s something that most people know about, and it’s almost impossible to live a happy life without it.
And guess what?
Manifestation could help us understand the real reason why people appear in our dreams over and over again.
I’m not going to get into the details of how it works, but I’m sure you’re familiar with this concept as a whole.
So let’s put it in simple words: if you want something to happen in your life, and you keep thinking about it over and over again, eventually your mind will help you manifest that thing.
In other words: if you keep dreaming about someone from your past or from the present, then that person might appear in real life as well!
When you re-live a situation in your dreams, your subconscious mind might be trying to re-direct the outcome of the situation in your real life.
You can’t move forward from a problem if you don’t know or don’t want to change something about your life.
This can happen to friends, family members, or even enemies.
You might be dreaming about that person because you are trying to change the outcome of your relationship with them.
When you are dreaming about someone you are trying to manifest a positive outcome with, the most common dream scenarios are arguments, confrontations, or even re-living a situation where you felt wronged in the past.
The reason why we don’t notice is that we can’t see our thoughts and feelings unless we try to look for them.
But our subconscious knows what is happening inside of us even though we can’t control it.
It’s just like a computer program: it knows what happens when we are sleeping, but it can’t do anything about it unless we tell it to do so.
So, if you are dreaming about this person, try to change the outcome of your relationship with them.
5) There’s an energy imbalance between you and this person, which is causing the dream
Have you ever noticed that you and the person you’re constantly dreaming about have a negative energy imbalance?
Believe it or not, this could be the main reason why you keep dreaming about that person.
We all have good and bad energies inside of us, and the same goes for the people we interact with.
Whenever we come into contact with someone, their energy will affect us in some way.
Sometimes it’s positive, sometimes it’s negative.
But if you are constantly dreaming about that person, chances are that you two have a negative energy imbalance between each other.
Let’s try to dive a little bit deeper.
I remember from my psychoanalysis course that energy imbalances are common among people.
This can be due to a bad breakup, a negative interaction, or something unresolved between you and this person.
Whatever the case, your subconscious mind is trying to balance the energy so that you feel better and they feel better.
When you are dreaming about this person, your subconscious might be trying to resolve the energy imbalance between the two of you.
Your dream might not even feature the person.
Instead, you might be dreaming about the situation that caused the energy imbalance to begin with.
Now, why is that the case?
Well, there are two reasons for this: one is because of your past karma; and two, it’s because of the current situation in your life.
First of all, if you had a negative experience with someone in the past, chances are that you’re still suffering from it.
We often see people from our past in our dreams because we are trying to understand why we had a problem with them in the first place.
But it can also be because something bad is going on in your life right now.
So, if you are dreaming about someone who has caused an energy imbalance in your life, try to resolve the issues with them.
6) You’re in love with that person and don’t know it
Let me ask you a question about your recurring dream.
Does it feel super comfortable and positive whenever you keep dreaming about that person?
Or does it feel like something is missing in your life whenever you dream about that person?
If the answer to the former question is yes, then there’s a high chance that you’re in love with that person.
This is especially common among teenagers.
You might be dreaming about this person because you are in love with them and don’t know it.
Your subconscious can’t tell you that you are in love with this person, but it can bring that person up in your dreams so you can face your feelings head-on.
When you are dreaming about someone you are in love with, the dream might not feature them at all.
Instead, you might be dreaming about the feelings that cause you to fall in love with someone.
Sometimes you might have nightmares or weird dreams because you subconsciously know that what you feel for this person is wrong.
But keep in mind that loving someone is never wrong, so there’s no need to feel bad about it.
7) The person is currently going through something traumatic and you feel helpless to stop it
Did you know that sometimes when we dream about the same person over and over again, it’s because we feel helpless to stop them from going through something traumatic?
This is one of the reasons why you might dream about someone you know.
The reason is that you’re an empathetic person and now that they’re struggling.
But you also know that there’s nothing you can do about their situation, and, as a result, you feel like it’s your fault.
You’re just feeling bad because you can’t do anything to help them.
This concept is known as ‘secondary trauma‘ in psychology. It means that people who try to help the victims of trauma get traumatized themselves.
In other words, they get affected as well.
And this is especially common in therapists who work with trauma victims. Because they’re exposed to other people’s trauma, they experience their own.
This is what happens when you dream about someone you know over and over again.
You feel like it’s your fault that they’re going through something traumatic, but you can’t do anything to help them.
It’s a horrible feeling because not only are you failing to help them, but you’re also feeling helpless. And this is why dreaming about someone else is so frustrating and upsetting.
When you are dreaming about someone you feel helpless to stop from going through something traumatic, the dream might not feature the person at all.
Instead, you might be dreaming about a traumatic event that happened in the past or is currently happening in real life.
The thing is that you’re too empathetic and can’t process these feelings without guilt.
8) You feel guilty for a reason you can’t explain
Speaking of guilt, here’s another reason why you might dream about someone you know.
You feel guilty for a reason you can’t explain.
The truth is that guilt is a pretty common emotion to feel.
You might be dreaming about this person because you feel guilty for something you did in the past and don’t know how to resolve it.
Your subconscious can’t erase guilt, but it can bring up the person in your dreams so you can try to resolve the guilt you feel.
The result?
When you are dreaming about someone, you feel guilty for what you did to that person. The dream might not feature the person at all.
Instead, you might be dreaming about the guilty feeling you have and wish you could resolve it somehow.
When you are dreaming about someone, you feel guilty for a reason you can’t explain. Try to find out why you feel guilty and try to resolve the guilt you feel.
For example, you dream about someone you know, and the dream makes you feel guilty. You don’t know why, but it just does.
So, if this happens to you, ask yourself what they did to make you feel guilty.
And then figure out how to apologize and fix it. It might be that they’re trying to get your attention in the dream, so try apologizing and see if it works.
9) They are currently in your life, but you don’t want to be with them
One more reason why you might be dreaming about someone over and over again is that they are currently in your life, but you don’t want to be with them.
Sometimes, people get back together after a breakup or divorce and then realize that they aren’t meant for each other.
What’s more, you might be dreaming about your friend, sibling, co-worker, or anyone who has a negative influence over your life.
The thing is that you’re too afraid to realize that you don’t want this person in your life anymore.
But you can’t hide from your unconscious, and that’s why you’re dreaming about this person.
The truth is that you don’t want to be with them, but your subconscious is trying to make you realize this.
And the best way your subconscious can do this is by bringing them up in your dreams.
So, if you find yourself dreaming about someone who has a negative influence on your life, try to figure out why they are in your life and how to get rid of them.
This is why you might dream about someone you have been with in the past and are currently with but don’t want to be with anymore.
10) You want to know more about this person
And the final reason that I want to share with you is that you might be dreaming about someone because you want to know more about them.
The thing is that you know this person, they’re in your life, but you don’t know them as well as you want to.
You might want to know more about their personality, their likes, dislikes, their past, and so on. This is why you’re dreaming about them.
In real life, there are some people that we feel something for or want to know more about—even though we don’t know why.
And when we’re alone at night, our minds will work hard to bring these people into our dreams.
If your subconscious wants to show you something related to this person or wants you to find out more about them, it will do everything it can in order to make that happen.
So what does your subconscious want from this person?
It could be anything from getting closure with them to just understanding why they’re so important in your life.
And you might even be trying to figure out if they’re someone who’s meant for you in the future.
One thing is for sure: if your subconscious thought they were worth bringing into your dreams, it means they’re worth thinking about!
So, if you find yourself dreaming about someone you know but don’t know that well, try to get to know them better.
It might be that your dreams are trying to tell you that there’s something special about this person and that they are worth knowing better.
Final thoughts
As you can see, there are a lot of reasons why you might be dreaming about the same person over and over again.
And yes, there can be some negative reasons as well.
But in most cases, it’s your subconscious telling you that they are important to you and that they have some kind of influence on your life.
In either case, if the same dream recurs often, it usually indicates there is something about this person that has left a mark on your subconscious.
After all, dreams are a window to your soul. They reveal things that may remain hidden from view during daylight hours.
