9 ways to tell if you’re an old soul in a young body

Have you ever felt like your soul is much older than your body?

Though we count our birthdays, your soul’s age can be many times higher.

When I first realized this, so many things about my life suddenly started making sense.

So let’s go ahead and see if you too, are an old soul in a young body.

1) People your age don’t tend to understand you

The first sign that you’re an old soul in a young body is that many of your peers can’t seem to understand you.

This is natural, when you think about it — although your bodies are the same age, your soul is much further down the spiritual path.

There are not as many points in common between you two, for you to connect to each other.

As a result, you may feel like a bit of an outsider at times.

But don’t worry, you’re definitely not the only old soul out there, and you’ll immediately know when you connect with the right people.

2) You connect with people much older than you

This point is an extension of the one above. If you’re an old soul, you’ll feel drawn to souls that are also older.

Although the time we spend on Earth is miniscule in the grand scheme of things, the experiences we have as humans do still make a difference.

The older we get, the more we’ve been through, the more lessons we’ve accumulated, and the wiser we become.

These are the things an old soul craves, and so you might be surprised to find yourself bonding with people much older than you are.

For example, I’ve found myself becoming great friends with people 20 or even 30 years older than me. I was stunned at how comfortable and natural the friendship felt.

Others may have some difficulty understanding it, but that’s just another sign that you’re an old soul in a young body.

3) You have long periods of time when you’re single

It’s natural that when you’re an old soul in a young body, you won’t feel the need to always be in a relationship.

When a person’s soul is young, they need to go through many relationships in order to learn the lessons needed for them.

They are still searching for what they want, and they crave love and affection in the most basic form.

But as your soul matures, you understand how to find love, strength, and fulfillment from within.

You don’t want to waste time in relationships that you know aren’t right for you, and you can usually tell pretty quickly if this is the case.

At the end of the day, this will save both you and other people a lot of heartache. And when you do get into a relationship, you’ll know that’s one that’s worth investing into.

4) You tend to find meaning even in mundane things

As an old soul, it seems like everything makes you think.

That snippet of conversation you heard as you passed two people on the street. The advertisement you saw painted on the bus. A seemingly unimportant scene from a movie.

You always find yourself digging deep for the meaning behind all these things, and uncovering insights and lessons that others scratch their heads over.

This is a great gift. Though you can only remember your current lifetime, your soul has countless others behind it, and the many lessons have stuck with you.

As a result, even the tiniest things can poke at a hidden memory or lesson you’ve had, and trigger a bout of introspection.

It also means you’re great at finding inspiration in surprising places, and discovering unique connections between things.

5) You take your time considering decisions

How long do you tend to spend mulling over important decisions?

Though we can’t generalize, older souls do tend to consider things more carefully.

But on the other hand, as a soul with more experience, you will also have an easier time coming to the right decision.

Several old souls I’ve spoken to have told me that they don’t actually spend a lot of energy thinking rationally about something.

They just let the information sit with them, and they gradually realize what the right choice for them is.

I think of this like decisions marinating in your gut — you’re tapping into knowledge from your past lives that you cannot access consciously, but is always there for your soul to access.

6) You can see the big picture

Ever heard of the expression “can’t see the forest for the trees”?

Though you understand what it means, it’s not something you can really relate to. Because there’s one thing old souls are really good at, and that’s seeing the bigger picture

This means many great things. For one, you don’t let the little things get to you. If someone insults you, you understand that this comes from their own insecurity, or something that has nothing to do with you.

You don’t let inconveniences set you off — there are much more important things going on in the world.

And, even when things do upset you, you’re able to take a deep breath, take a step back, and refocus on what matters most.

7) You don’t like to collect possessions

Others around you seem obsessed with getting the latest model of smartphone, trendy clothes, or expensive cars.

But you? You don’t see the point. Instead, you find joy in simplicity and freedom. Material possessions just weigh you down.

I saw an example of this while traveling with friends. One of them left a newly bought scarf in a restaurant, and unfortunately when she came back for it a few hours later, it was gone.

She was extremely upset and spent the rest of the trip distracted and worrying about the money she lost, and whether or not she still had time to buy a second scarf.

At the end of the day, the memories she could have made with her friends would have been much more valuable, but her attachment to a material object made her blind to this.

An old soul would never make this mistake — you know that happiness and fulfillment come from meaningful connections, personal growth, and from within.

8) You have a deep appreciation for art and culture

Old souls often have a profound appreciation for the arts, culture, and the beauty of the world around them.

Just look around your home. You may not have the most popular masterpieces hanging on the walls, but you do have items that you wonder at the beauty of.

Maybe it’s a small trinket you picked up as a souvenir. Or a handmade drawing a friend made for you. Or a practical item that has a special aesthetic charm to it.

And this extends far beyond visual arts. You love listening to soul-stirring music, immersing yourself in literature, and admiring the creative works of others.

You may also have a fascination with different cultures, traditions, and historical periods. Exploring museums, learning about ancient civilizations, or indulging in traditional art forms can be sources of inspiration and joy for you.

9) You have a natural inclination towards spirituality and introspection

Lastly, one of the most powerful ways to tell if you’re an old soul in a young body is how spiritual and introspective you are.

And the answer probably is, a lot.

This is something old souls really can’t help doing. You’ve been through so much collectively over your many lifetimes, and there is a lot to find inside yourself even if you aren’t consciously aware of it all.

That’s why you tend to turn to spirituality to find answers.

You’re drawn to philosophical and metaphysical concepts, and love trying new practices that help you discover new aspects of yourself.

Personally, this has led me to delve into chakras and reiki, as well as learn about astrology and things like twin souls and starseeds.

This is hands down one of the most exciting things about being an old soul — there are endless things out there for you to discover.

Living your life as an old soul

If you’ve just found confirmation that you’re an old soul in a young body — congratulations, and welcome to the club!

There may not be that many of us, but the good thing is that you will have a very easy time finding other members. They will just stand out to you, sometimes for no apparent reason.

Just the other day, I was at a party and a young lady caught my eye who I felt an inexplicable urge to go talk to.

And we clicked so well that we ended up talking the whole rest of the night.

I’m certain that if you keep an eye out, you will be sure to connect with many other souls as beautiful and mature as yours too.
