Start doing these 9 things if you really want to change your life

Nobody enjoys feeling stuck, but change can sometimes seem like a daunting mountain to climb. Whether it’s financial woes, physical health, or mental wellbeing, hitting a dead end is a feeling we’re all too familiar with.

We are creatures of habit and leaving our comfort zones is not an easy feat. It’s challenging to take that first step towards change, especially when things aren’t going well.

But, if we’re dedicated to making positive changes, there are strategies to help us along the way. Here are 9 tactics I’ve personally deployed to make significant shifts in my life recently.

1) Establish clear goals

Ever realized how simple it is to hit a target when you’re aiming right at it? The same logic applies to our goals.

Setting precise goals and crafting tangible steps towards them is crucial. Once you’ve outlined your goals, consider dividing them into bite-sized tasks.

This approach makes your goals feel less daunting and promotes steady advancement.

2) Develop a positive mindset

If you want to experience success, it’s important that you have the right mindset for it. This means getting rid of negative thoughts and replacing them with optimism and hope.

Shawn Achor, a leading expert on the science of happiness, has said that “your brain at positive is 31% more productive than at negative, neutral or stressed.”

So what’s the takeaway there?

To truly transform your life, you need to zero in on the positives and maintain an optimistic outlook for the future.

Find what drives you and focus on life’s bright spots. If there’s nothing keeping you going right now, look forward to the things you desire, understanding that a shift in mindset can bring them within reach and allow you to drastically change your life.

3) Make time for reflection

While we’re on the topic of mindset, let’s delve into reflection, as being able to review your thoughts and emotions is key to nurturing a positive mindset.

Reflection goes hand-in-hand with self-care. Take a moment to ponder over recent thoughts and how they align with your future ambitions.

Personally, I like to review my day with a few simple questions:

  • What went well?
  • What didn’t go so well?
  • How can I improve tomorrow?

This practice helps me stay on track and keeps my goals at the forefront of my mind.  Furthermore, it prevents feelings of stagnation and discouragement from taking hold.

4) Get moving

This next one is a continuous challenge for me – physical activity. But, I know it’s crucial for life transformation.

It’s not just about looking fit (though that’s a bonus), but exercise also bolsters our mental health and enhances cognitive skills.

Even if life feels tough and exercise seems unappealing, trust me – it’s worthwhile.

Aim to get active three days a week, starting with light activities like walking, and gradually up the ante and I can assure you, the rewards will be worth it. I’ve personally noticed my stress levels reduce and my energy heighten significantly since I started exercising regularly.

5)  Surround yourself with positive people

What we absorb defines us, so it’s crucial to surround ourselves with positivity. The company we keep can either inspire us or drain us with negativity – choose wisely!

I had a friend who seemed to thrive on pulling people down and my self-esteem suffered because of it. It was a hard decision, but distancing myself greatly improved my life. I am now surrounded by people who motivate and inspire me to be the best I can be.

This doesn’t mean avoiding those who challenge you, but be mindful of how others make you feel. If the impact is negative, consider stepping back.

6)  Embrace change

Change is not only inevitable but also beneficial. Embracing change keeps our minds agile, paving the way for unexpected growth opportunities.

Sure, it takes some adjustment, but frequently stepping outside your comfort zone prepares you for life’s unexpected twists.

Would we have reached the moon if we’d clung to rigid thinking? Keep an open mind and stay receptive to the potential of positive life changes.

The next time something comes up, consider it an invitation to grow.

7) Hold yourself accountable

Change requires follow-through on our goals and plans. It’s vital to keep the commitments we make to ourselves and others.

If you’re regularly breaking self-made promises or commitments to others, pause and reflect on why that’s happening.

Are your goals too lofty? Are you biting off more than you can chew?

Identify your roadblocks, then adjust accordingly. Once you understand where you’re falling short, hold yourself accountable and move forward.

8) Seek support

Even with our strongest efforts, we can’t always handle everything alone. It’s completely fine to ask for help when you’re stuck, whether it’s from family, friends, or a mental health expert.

Having a mentor or role model you look up to can be a bonus.

Learning from those who’ve succeeded in areas where we’re aiming for change is often beneficial. Their stories and ways of overcoming challenges can serve as powerful inspiration.

9) Find what you’re passionate about

Finding your passion is key. Without it, you might find yourself stuck in a cycle of feeling discouraged and stagnant.

So, pinpoint what truly interests you and spend time on those passions.

Let your creativity shine through. For me, art has been a fantastic medium for self-expression and discovery, helping me stay in tune with myself and bring out my best.

It might take a while, but soon you’ll have a clear understanding of what really motivates you and how you can turn that into your life’s work.

Final thoughts

Initiating positive changes isn’t simple—it necessitates a firm dedication to personal growth. However, with the correct attitude and approach, the transformation can be truly fulfilling.

So, navigate these steps gradually, let them lead you, and don’t forget to savor the journey! Each minor accomplishment will enhance your faith in your ability to effect enduring change.

Keep in mind that you’re capable of more than you realize—the power is within you! So, step out there and turn your dreams into reality.
