Finding direction in our lives can sometimes be an overwhelming prospect; it may seem that no matter which way we go, it still feels like we haven’t found our path.
I’ve been there before, and it’s no fun. Sometimes, though, it helps to figure out if you’re on the wrong spiritual path—instead of stressing about which one is the right one.
That’s what I’ll help you figure out in this article.
Here are 17 spiritual signs you’re on the wrong path.
17 spiritual signs you’re on the wrong path
1) You’re not seeing results
One of the best ways to know if you’re on the right path is to gauge your results.
In other words, listen to the feedback you’re getting. Not just from people, but from everything around you.
Does it seem like your efforts are making waves, does it seem like your work is getting results?
If not, it could be a big sign that you’re on the wrong path.
Make sure to tune into the vibrations around you. You’ll be able to tell, spiritually, if there’s something off. If something feels off, it could be because you aren’t getting any results.
2) You’re tempted to ignore your intuition
Intuition is a powerful thing. It’s not necessarily omniscient, though, nor is it something you should place unquestioning trust in. That being said, intuition is powerful, and often rings true.
In this manner, then, it’s a great gauge to help you figure out if you’re on the wrong path, or if you’re on the right one.
How does your intuition feel on a day-to-day basis? Are you constantly pushed or pressured to ignore your instincts? Whether it’s pressure from other people, or pressure to make what seems like the smartest decision, it doesn’t matter.
Feeling tempted to ignore your intuition is a big sign that you’ve found yourself on the wrong path.
This temptation to ignore our intuition can come from a place of fear, or a place of unknowing. If we aren’t sure of anything, it can be tempting to start making decisions, any decisions, regardless of our intuition.
It’s better than not knowing, right? I have to make a move on my life’s path at some point, right?
Wrong.
These thoughts are fear-based, and they point to being on the wrong path spiritually. So don’t ignore your intuition.

3) A real psychic confirms it
The signs I’m revealing in this article will give you a good idea about whether you’re on the wrong path.
But could you get even more clarity by speaking to a real psychic?
Clearly, you have to find someone you can trust. With so many fake psychics out there, it’s important to have a pretty good BS detector.
After going through a messy break-up, I recently tried Psychic Source. They provided me with the guidance I needed in life, including who I am meant to be with.
I was actually blown away by how kind, caring, and knowledgeable they were.

4) Loss of identity
When we reach our wit’s end, it can often be hard to hang on to our identity. We start to question who we are, what we stand for, and whether or not it’s our identity that’s the problem, or something else.
I know I’ve found myself in this position a number of times. It’s not a fun place to be, in fact, it can be very confusing. I’ve felt full of despair. Is this the wrong path, or is this the right path?
It’s important in times like this to recenter.
What have you been pouring your energy into? Is it things that are important to you, things that you feel are an honest expression of yourself?
If so, it’s a good sign that you haven’t lost your identity. You’re on the right track.
However, if you feel doubtful about who you are, what you stand for, or why you’re making the choices you do, it’s important to step back and re-center with yourself first.
Before you make any rash decisions.
Here’s a great article that talks all about why you might feel like you have no goals or ambitions in life.
5) Listen to the feedback
This ties into my first point pretty well. It’s important to pay close attention to the feedback we’re getting in our day-to-day lives.
When we tune in to the universe around us, it’s so much easier to figure out if we’re on the wrong spiritual path.
The universe can give us all kinds of hints and clues about what we’re doing, where we’ve been, and where we’re going.
You may get messengers, people telling you exactly what you need to hear, what you need to do, and so on. You might see numbers pointing you in the right direction, or a different direction than you’re going.
Don’t ignore these signs, they’ll help you realize you’re on the wrong path, and guide you towards the right one.
Study the results of your actions, the feedback, the energy around you. Doing this will help you see clearly what path you’re on, and whether or not it’s the right one.
Here’s some big signs that you’re on the right path.
6) A sense of unease or confusion
Feeling uneasy about your choices is normal. We all often wonder whether or not we’ve done the right thing, made the right decision, or acted wisely in a certain scenario.
But here’s the thing: when you find yourself confused, at a loss, or uneasy in every decision you make, it’s a big red flag that you’re on the wrong spiritual path.
Maybe you feel like a zombie, like your hands are tied, like your choices have all been made for you. You don’t play an active role in your own life.
These feelings are a big sign that something’s not right in life. When you’re confused, lost, and uneasy, you’ll be making poor decisions, or you won’t be making any, as if you were a passenger in your own life.
These are the spiritual symptoms of being on the wrong path. It’s important to be aware of them.
If you see these in yourself, it’s not too late. The first step in healing, and in finding the right path, is to recognize you’re on the wrong one.
Often this is the biggest step. Once you’re aware, you’ll already start to feel the fog lift, the anxiety ease.
Here are some great buddhist tips to help you let go of anxiety.
7) Things aren’t working out
In life, there’s bound to be disappointments. Things don’t work out all the time. We try, and we fail, and we learn.
It’s part of the wonder of life. Failure is one of the principal ways we grow as humans.
However, if you’re on the right path, you will be seeing things work out, and those things will be big things. The most important things, the things that mean the most to you. You won’t be a hundred percent successful, but you will be getting results.
Therefore, if none of those things are working out for you, it’s a big sign that you’re on the wrong spiritual path.
8) You’re not focused on your true spiritual journey
Whether you do this on purpose, or not, not being focused on your true spiritual journey is a big sign showing you’re not on the right path.
But what could be keeping you from finding it? Most often than not, we tend to believe what everyone has to say about spirituality.
So, when it comes to your personal spiritual journey, which toxic habits have you unknowingly picked up?
Is it the need to be positive all the time? Is it a sense of superiority over those who lack spiritual awareness?
Even well-meaning gurus and experts can get it wrong.
The result?
You end up achieving the opposite of what you’re searching for. You do more to harm yourself than to heal.
You may even hurt those around you.
In this eye-opening video, the shaman Rudá Iandé explains how so many of us fall into the toxic spirituality trap. He himself went through a similar experience at the start of his journey.
But with over 30 years of experience in the spiritual field, Rudá now confronts and tackles popular toxic traits and habits.
As he mentions in the video, spirituality should be about empowering yourself. Not suppressing emotions, not judging others, but forming a pure connection with who you are at your core.

9) Your third eye is cloudy or closed
Our intuition is closely tied to our third eye. When our third eye is open, we are sensitive to the energy flowing around us. We can sense what we don’t see, we have the ability to understand people and things in a way that we can’t otherwise.
This third eye won’t be open if you’re on the wrong spiritual path. In fact, it could be one of the reasons behind why you’ve ended up on the wrong path in the first place.
Without the higher insight that our third eye gives us, we end up unclear about our life’s purpose. When we don’t really have a purpose, we don’t really have a direction. This often leads to missteps, mistakes, and wrong decisions.
Before you know it, you’re on the wrong spiritual path.
Taking the time to meditate, clear your mind of all thoughts, and tune in to the energy constantly flowing around us, you’ll be able to raise your consciousness and find the right spiritual path. Your third eye will no longer be closed or cloudy.
Here’s a really interesting article that talks about the truth behind a third-eye kiss.
10) Feelings of isolation
No one likes to feel alone on their sojourn through life. We all love having friends to be with us along the way.
So if you find yourself constantly grappling with feelings of isolation, it could be because you’re on the wrong path.
If you’re on the wrong spiritual path, you may notice some difficult truths about the friends in your life.
If you do have friends, you may not feel like you fit in. They may take you for granted, forget to invite you places, or treat you poorly.
This is because they aren’t true friends. That’s not to say they’re bad people, either, they’re just on a different path than you.
Try not to waste time on people who you just don’t get along with. It sounds difficult, but it can be hard in practice.
When you’re on the right spiritual path, your friends will come to you easily. In fact, you’ll find them blossoming like flowers in summer, there for you when you need them. It won’t seem forced, difficult, or one-sided in any way.
So if you’re struggling with feelings of isolation, take it as a spiritual sign you’re on the wrong path.
Here are some helpful tips if it feels like you don’t have any friends.
11) Chronic exhaustion
Enervation is one of the biggest spiritual signs you’re on the wrong path.
When pursuing your life’s purpose, you’ll have periods of high energy, as well as periods of low energy.
You’ll face setbacks, difficulties, and low points.
However, this is different if you’re on the wrong spiritual path.
When you’re on the wrong spiritual path, you’ll be facing chronic exhaustion. You’ll find yourself low on energy, and at a loss for motivation.
Some days, it may feel like getting out of bed just takes too much energy.
It’s not the getting out of bed that’s hard, it’s having to face a day filled with tasks that have nothing to do with your life’s purpose, your spiritual goals, or your destiny.
These things are taxing, and it points to the fact that you’re on the wrong path.
12) When did you last smile?
Self-check-ins are so vital in life. If we don’t take the time to assess our mental health, our well-being, and our state of mind, it becomes so easy to lose track of things.
We lose track of time, we lose track of who we are, and we lose sight of our goals and ambitions.
So ask yourself, when was the last time you smiled?
Life is by no means easy, and toxic positivity is just as bad as being a pessimist. But that’s not to say it’s all glum.
There’s so much in the world to smile about, or laugh about (even if it is a morbid sense of humor). When you’re on the right path spiritually, you’ll be able to smile, feel proud, and experience a sense of ease.
This sense of ease will be distinctly lacking if you find yourself spiritually on the wrong path.
In fact, it’s one of the biggest signs that you’re on the wrong path. When life seems to be sucking all your happiness away, to the point that you no longer have a sense of humor.
During hardship, it can be hard to see the light. That’s okay. It’s okay to not smile, and not smile for a long time. Our negative emotions are just as important as our positive ones.
Life is extremely difficult at times.
But if your life isn’t in crisis right now, and you’re still not smiling, it could be because of a deep sense of displacement.
You’re not on the right path.
13) Dissatisfaction
Along those same lines, having a deep sense of displacement, or dissatisfaction, can point to the wrong path.
For instance, just because you’re seeing a lot of success in your life doesn’t mean you’re happy.
Falling into the mindset that you “should” be happy because of x, y, or z, is not a healthy way of looking at things. Even if everything is going your way, that doesn’t mean you have to be happy.
In fact, noticing that disparity is a big sign that you’ve found yourself on the wrong path. Just because you’re seeing results, or living a “good” life, doesn’t mean it checks those spiritual boxes.
In other words, it doesn’t mean you’re living up to your true potential, finding the right spiritual path, or reaching your calling.
When you notice this difference, you find yourself dissatisfied, unhappy, and unable to shake the feeling that something is off. Don’t ignore those feelings, listen to them.
Take a step back and recenter. Think deeply, meditate, figure out just what it is that will bring you true satisfaction, instead of total dissatisfaction.
Here are some simple tricks to live the way you want.
14) Indecisive more often than not
Finding yourself at a loss when you’re at the crossroads hardly makes you alone. We all face big, life-altering decisions, throughout our life.
Waffling back and forth as to which choice to make is perfectly normal.
On the flipside, though, being indecisive all the time could be a spiritual sign that you’re on the wrong path.
When you’ve found the right path, decisions almost come naturally. One leads to the next, each one a logical progression of your vision, your goal, and your desire to attain what matters to you most.
To put it another way, being unable to make decisions can really only mean a couple of things. One, you are unsure of your calling entirely, and haven’t yet found your inner self. Or, two, it’s because you’re on the wrong path and you don’t know it. Each decision is laborious and anxiety-inducing.
That’s because there really isn’t a “right” choice. The best choice to make is the one that takes you away from the wrong path and onto the right one. Most day-to-day decisions won’t be that.
Not until you step in and take action, that is.
Sometimes we feel lost right after a spiritual awakening. This can be a confusing paradox. However, here’s a look at some things you can do to find your new bearings.
15) You justify every choice—in your head and to your friends
Feeling the need to justify yourself or your actions is a big red flag that you feel guilty about something.
If you find yourself constantly justifying every choice you make, whether it’s in your head or to the people around you, take it as a spiritual sign that you’re on the wrong path.
Confidence is a huge part of living a successful and rewarding life, one that keeps us pointed forward on our spiritual path.
Confidence doesn’t call for justification. Standing proud beside the decisions we make. That’s called self-esteem.
When we are self-actualized, chasing our dreams on the correct spiritual path, that’s when our self-esteem is at its highest. That’s how we know we’re headed in the right direction.
A constant need for validation or justification is the opposite of this. There’s no need to justify the right choice, but there might be a need to justify the wrong one.
Taking the time to consider this carefully will prove to help you find out if you’re on the wrong spiritual path.
Here are some big signs that you’re secure with yourself.
16) Your fuse has been short for a while now
When we reach burnout, or find ourselves at our wit’s end, our ability to cope drops significantly.
How has your fuse been lately? Do you find yourself ready to snap, at any given moment?
It could be because you’re on the wrong path. It could be because you’ve been trying way too hard, for way too long, and seeing way too few results.
The result of this is not good. Your short fuse leads to outbursts, frustration, tension, and even loss of friendship.
This is why it’s so important to check in with yourself, and listen to what your intuition and the universe around you are trying to say.
Before your fuse gets too short. Before your frustration overflows and hurts the people you care about most.
17) Inexplicable sense of dread or anxiety
The times that I’ve found myself on the wrong path have been difficult at best. It seems that no matter how much I devote myself to what I think is the right thing, I still have this sinking feeling deep inside.
I could never explain it, this sense of dread and anxiety. Why would I be feeling this way if I’m doing the right thing?
Often it would lead me to dive deeper into the task or goal or dream, confusing the anxiety for desire to see the outcome.
However, that wasn’t the case. If I had listened just a little bit closer, I would have seen that this dread and anxiety was chiefly because I was on the wrong path.
This spiritual sign that you’re on the wrong path can be one of the hardest to spot, so keep a sharp eye out for it.
