You’ve heard people talk about having a “spiritual inclination” — you may even feel you’re one of these people.
But what does that really mean?
Is it communicating with ghosts, having strong intuition, or unlocking talents others don’t have?
The answer will surprise you.
Read on to find out 5 things it means to have spiritual inclination.
1) You’re curious and interested in spiritual and religious topics
The first thing it means to have a spiritual inclination is being interested in various spiritual and religious topics.
This doesn’t mean you have to belong to any particular religion — although you can, of course. But you can also identify partially with one, or several, or you could be exploring different ideas.
And beyond religion, there are also spiritual practices and beliefs.
These are things that you might find within religions, but they don’t necessarily have to be a part of one.
For example, you could believe in karma and reincarnation without necessarily belonging to any religion.
Honestly, there are SO many options out there. And spiritually inclined people can belong to any of them.
What they all have in common though, is that they love to learn more. Just because you belong to a particular religion doesn’t mean you can’t be curious about opposing beliefs!
This could mean many things:
- You study religious doctrines
- You read about the history of religion
- You practice meditation or prayer
- You listen to people talk about their experiences
- You attend courses or workshops to explore different concepts
Spiritual inclination gives you an open-mindedness which helps you relate to and understand other ideas, even if they are very different from yours.
2) You feel connected to the spiritual world
We all live in the 3D world, interacting with other people, physical objects, and the laws of physics.
But people with a spiritual inclination knows that there is much, much more to the universe than this dimension that we live in.
There is also the spiritual dimension, with non-physical beings. And there are dozens of ways that people describe this dimension.
Some people consider this to be heaven, others “the universe”. The beings that live in this spiritual dimension might be called “angels,” or “your Higher Power,” or “spirits”.
Whatever name you decide to call it, your spiritual inclination tells you that this is real, and you are connected with it.
Actually, we are all connected with it. Non-spiritually inclined people think of it as a “gut feeling” or perhaps a “sixth sense”.
It’s all intuition — but where it comes from is the spiritual realm. It’s information that you get from beyond your 5 physical senses.
They come from your soul, or other souls around you, or the energy of the universe.
Spiritually inclined people are the ones who are the most receptive to this valuable information, and look for a link with the higher power.
3) You ask big picture questions
In my life, I’ve realized that there are 2 types of connections I meet. The first are people who I can talk with about literally anything.
No idea is too crazy or “woo woo.” We can discuss our life purpose, the meaning of life, or what comes after death.
It’s easy to talk to some people about this because they like to think about these questions themselves.
But with others, it’s like coming up against a brick wall. They just don’t see the point in talking or thinking about these things, which feel like nonsense to them.
I’ve noticed that I always feel more comfortable around the first type, because they allow me to be myself and express myself fully and openly.
The same thoughts that run through my mind, I can put into a conversation, and I get another person to ponder and analyze them together with me.
This is how spiritually minded people often connect with each other.
They both seek a better comprehension of the meaning and purpose of life, and they tackle it with a fearlessness and purity of intention.
4) You’re in awe of the world
Humans are creatures of habit, and we like to find routines where we feel comfortable that help us do things more efficiently and comfortably.
It’s not long before we start to zone out and become oblivious to our surroundings.
We get up, pour our coffee, get in our cars, get stuck in traffic, and arrive at work.
But spiritually inclined people never lose their sense of wonder for the world and all the beautiful things in it.
I don’t just mean stunning sunsets and star-lit skies, although that’s definitely worthy of admiration as well.
I mean the little things that the vast majority of people overlook.
They get up with a deep gratitude for another day on this planet.
They pour their coffee with mindfulness and appreciation for the smell and taste — and might even wonder at the shapes the cream makes in it, and the physical laws of the universe that make the coffee pour a certain way.
In the traffic jam, they feel compassion for other drivers, and deep gratitude for the person in the car next to yours that makes space for you to merge into the next lane.
A “regular” person might wave thanks out of sheer formality. But a spiritually inclined person will consciously recognize their luck, the momentary connection they had with the other driver, and feel gratefulness from deep within their heart.
Spirituality is not about experiencing huge miracles (though that can certainly happen too). It’s about seeing small miracles in little every day things.
5) You seek better self-awareness
Finally, if you have a spiritual inclination you constantly seek better awareness of yourself.
This is probably the most important of all 5 of these items, and definitely the key to deepening your spirituality.
Why? Because you can only develop your spirituality as deep as you know yourself.
It’s about being aware of your strengths, weaknesses, triggers, talents, and the path that you’re choosing for yourself in life.
Self-discovery helps you become closer to your spirit and soul, and through them you start to feel a deep connection to the world they are rooted in.
When you gain better self-awareness, everything else including the 4 other points above naturally follows.
To gain it, you have to be willing to put in the time and effort to get in touch with your feelings and where they come from. You reflect on what they are, and what they tell you about yourself.
If they don’t serve you, you learn to let them go.
You become aware of the mistakes you’ve made, and learn to both accept and learn from them without making excuses. In this way, you help turn your weaknesses into strengths.
And through this process, you also discover your values, and stand by them no matter what. When you know what’s truly important to you, your morals and principles crystallize and decisions become that much easier to make.
Want to deepen your spiritual inclination?
Spiritual inclination is a deeply personal part of your identity, and can be awakened within you to unlock special gifts.
More and more people are awakening these days. There’s no doubt that you’re one of them, especially seeing as you’re here reading this right now.
A part of you has always known that there’s so much more for you to tap into and experience than what your five senses can access around you.
The relationships you’ve built so far seem to be missing that depth your soul craves.
You may struggle to live your life to the fullest, because you haven’t tapped into the spiritual talents that give you access to abundance in all forms — not just material possessions.
You may have already started your spiritual journey. But if you haven’t, then you have one big advantage: you haven’t yet picked up any toxic habits.
A lot of well-meaning gurus get it wrong, and spread the message that you need to be positive all the time, or encourage a sense of superiority over those who lack a spiritual awareness.
Unfortunately, the result is the very opposite of what you’re looking for.
On the other hand, real spiritual strength comes from empowering yourself to understand your own existence and role in the grand scheme of things.
It’s about forming a pure connection with who you are at your core.
This is the most important lesson I’ve learned throughout my entire spiritual journey. I learned it through shaman Rudá Iandé, who went through a similar experience at the start of his journey.
He explains it all in this eye-opening video.
Don’t worry, even if you’re well into your spiritual journey, it’s never too late to unlearn the myths you’ve bought for truth!
