Intuition is one of those things debated between hardcore science fans and spiritualists.
I’d consider myself a balanced in-between.
I think science has discovered a lot, but there is also a lot science hasn’t and maybe never will be able to uncover.
I believe that intuition speaks to us all the time, but it’s up to us to make space for it and listen intently when it does.
Call it a premonition, a deeper knowing, a message from your higher self, or a cognitive and sensory process.
We’re not here to debate the ‘how’ or ‘why’ of intuition.
What we do know is this:
It’s a subtle sense that we can definitely activate and refine if we slow down, and get in tune with our bodies.
I consider it a huge part of the whole of intelligence – wisdom beyond the mental processes if you will.
Why is it so important?
Intuition has the power to create unexplainable magic in your life!
Following your intuition rather than analyzing decisions from a mental space leads to more expansiveness, energy, and opportunities.
Are you curious about tapping into your intuition but need more guidance on how to find the signs?
I’m here to help with these 10 signs your intuition is trying to send you a message.
1) Gut feeling
One of the first things to look out for if you’re seeking more intuition in your life, is what everyone calls a ‘gut feeling’.
It can be a clear punch in the gut. Or, it can just be an uneasy feeling in the center of your body.
Some describe it as a knot in the pit of their stomach, if it’s foreboding something bad.
But it could also be a gut feeling to go for that thing, follow that opportunity, and get to know that person.
Following this, when it’s a positive gut feeling, will bring you more incredible and unexpected experiences (but always apply caution, of course).
2) Shivers and chills down the spine
Our intuition mainly speaks to us through the body.
When your intuition is telling you something, you may often get chills or a shiver up or down your spine.
This can happen in instances where you ‘feel’ that someone is watching you.
You get this when spirits are around you too (yes, I can confirm that spirits are definitely real – but that’s another story for another article).
If you get the chills suddenly, check with yourself why your intuition might be trying to send you a message.
With chills, the message can be a variety of things. The sign itself doesn’t indicate exactly what it’s telling you, only you can know that.
However, in my experience, it’s usually a synchronicity or a ‘Deja Vu’ moment that is telling you this decision is the right one, and that you’re along the right path. It can also be a foreboding sometimes, so try to remain open to the context!
3) Feeling uneasy
Sometimes, intuition sends us a message about potential danger through feelings of discomfort.
It tells us, ‘Don’t get in that car’, or, ‘Don’t trust this person’.
Don’t ignore this, because it’s usually right. Intuition basically combines many senses at once, including information stored from past experiences or stories, into a ‘feeling’ in the body.
It’s the wisest source of information because it’s everything you ‘know’ consciously and unconsciously combined into a knowing beyond either one alone.
4) Dreams
Dreams are a major outlet for intuition to express itself.
Think about it:
Have you ever woken up from a dream so complex that you thought, ‘I could have never come up with that myself’?
Or have you ever had a dream that presented a solution or an idea that felt like it came from a different source than your brain?
That’s intuition.
When the conscious mind is removed from the operation, you get what’s truly happening beneath the surface of your mind, in your subconscious.
And if you’ve ever tried hypnotherapy, you’ll know that the subconscious can reveal our deepest fears and our greatest desires.
Dreams that don’t seem to make any sense on the surface are especially great sources of memories, experiences, and thoughts that are swimming around in our subconscious.
Intuition combines all of these bits of information swimming around in our psyche – without the limitation of the conscious mind. Amazingly, this can enable more imagination, innovation, and creativity.
5) Daydreams
Dreams while you are awake are also sending you intuitive messages!
When you daydream, you are shutting off the conscious part of you that is conditioned to act a certain way, think a certain way, and basically ‘fit in’ to the way you need to function in society.
It removes the boundaries we need to get that task done, or to stay focused and on track with work.
When this happens, it creates space for imagination and sudden ‘aha’ moments to arrive. A previously confusing situation could suddenly make sense.
The brain might process and connect pieces of information that weren’t connected before and generate insights that you didn’t realize were hidden within you!
So if you’re in a creative rut or writer’s block – the intuitive doctor prescribes more daydreaming.
6) Picking up energy
“Vibes”.
Some will scoff at the term, but others will know exactly what I mean.
Some will say it’s a series of cognitive processes… but they still know exactly what I mean.
It’s the feeling when you walk down an alley and it just feels creepy, and you don’t want to be there.
It’s the feeling of when you meet someone, and you just want to be around them more. It’s not really about what they say or don’t say. It’s just knowing that you resonate with them.
So yeah…Vibes. That’s one major way your intuition is trying to send you a message.
7) Recurring thoughts
Recurring thoughts are tricky, so take this one with a grain of salt.
You see:
Thoughts of anxiety and overthinking can often be confused with intuition.
My personal rule is to accredit recurring thoughts to intuition if they lead to something more expansive rather than contracted.
This includes ideas, solutions, and plans.
Because in my experience:
If you’re in true danger, intuition usually wouldn’t communicate this on a mental thought level. It would be a whole-body reaction with physiological responses.
You can check in with yourself about whether this is true for you. Have recurring fearful thoughts mostly turned out true or not in your experience?
Remember, a thought is the product of a mental process, not necessarily including the emotions, energy, and feelings that sometimes come with it.
8) Coincidences and synchronicities
I choose to view coincidences and synchronicities as signs that I’m on the right path.
But I also understand the judgment that this can come across as ‘woo-woo’ or ungrounded.
You see, I used to think that way. Then I had some truly incredible synchronicities that were unexplainable. That offered me hope and led me out of sadness and despair.
So I started believing in them as a form of guidance. And when I did… I got even more of them.
So if you’re on the fence about this one, try to open your mind just a little to the possibility that something – maybe your intuition – is guiding you through little signs and nods in your reality.
You have nothing to lose, but maybe magical experiences to gain.
Just see what happens.
9) Inner peace
Another sign of your intuition sending you a message is feeling strangely calm or peaceful when you’re considering a decision.
The prospect of the decision could even be scary on a mental level, but your body is completely fine with it.
This can indicate that the path you’re about to choose is aligned with who you truly are, your higher self, or your destiny.
You have a deep inner knowing that whatever lies ahead in this decision, you are ready for it. You can handle it.
So trust this sense of inner peace as your intuition whenever you’re faced with a decision.
10) Impulse
Intuition can sometimes be expressed as an impulsive urge to do something, but I would also warn you to be careful with impulses. They aren’t always trustworthy!
Impulses can sometimes be more from an unhealed trauma or pattern if we are not aware.
But if the impulse feels light and free from the heaviness of past experiences, it could be your intuition speaking.
Conclusion
So there you have it: 10 signs your intuition is trying to send you a message.
What does this all mean for you?
If you’re at a crossroads in life, try to tune into these 8 signals in your body, mind, gut, dreams, and heart to lead you the most expansive way.
During a time when I had my own personal crossroads, everything felt out of flow for me. One thing I found so useful was shaman Ruda Iande’s “Free Your Mind” masterclass. It really helped me reconnect to my inner guidance and drop other people’s hidden expectations and pressures from my psyche.
The important thing is to work on clearing and healing your mind and heart to create space for a clear intuitive compass.
If you’re not sure where to start, I recommend watching the masterclass.
Within a clear internal space and a light conscience, there will be no interference, and your intuition will become your clearest guide.
