From farm to the catwalk and now as a writer and actress, Shelley has had many opportunities to demonstrate how imperfect she really is

Shelley grew up in small town Oklahoma, population: 700. She quickly fell in love with theatre and bringing compelling characters to life. As early as elementary school she was writing her own plays. When her third grade class was “good,” the teacher allowed Shelley to grace the class with her performance. She took a brief time-out when she was scouted by a modeling agency and flown halfway across the world to Milan, where she made a living for two years by being tall and hungry. Now, as a RECOVERING MODEL (also the name of her webseries) Shelley has rehabilitated herself on the improv stage at Groundlings and UCB, as well as performed standup all over the country. She has written for Disney and toured alongside Wayne Brady, doing both standup and improv.

A note from Justin Brown

I'm excited to give life to the Ideapod salons once again. It's even more exciting to be in this conversation with Shelley Dennis. Shelley has written for Ideapod and shared some of her experiences as a recovering model, emerging writer and established actress. She's someone who I see as living life to the point of tears, in that she embraces all parts of herself while giving life a red hot crack. We chatted recently and she mentioned she wanted to share a special message around her constant battle with perfectionism. It's something I can relate to as well. I'm looking forward to exploring this topic with Shelley and hopefully sharing some practical advice. There will be an opportunity for all live attendees to connect with each other as well. See you soon!

  • Get access to people with expertise and real-life experience. Our salons are conversations between people who have special expertise and experiences to share.

  • Connect with people from all over the world exploring similar ideas. The people who join us for these salons are for the most part curious and open-minded people wanting to learn about new ways of thinking. Community is formed around the salons.

  • Learn new tools and tricks that you can implement into your own life. We explore big ideas but always bring the focus back to practical application. Our salons empower you to implement what you learn into your daily life.
