2nd largest bank in America issues report saying we probably live in the matrix

Elon Musk has been saying for a while now that we are most probably living in the matrix and now analysts of Bank of America have officially indicated that they agree.

In a report to clients, Bank of America Merrill Lynch said there’s a 20-50% chance that we’re living in the matrix — a virtual reality world and that everything we experience is just a simulation.

So, we’re having fun (or not), on Earth holodeck?!? How about that.

The report also says that if our world were an illusion, we would never know about it.

The firm cites comments from Elon Musk, Neil deGrasse Tyson, and Nick Bostrom’s 2003 paper, “Are you living in a computer simulation?” in support of its stance on the issue.

The report references scientists, philosopher and business leaders who believe that humans are already living in a computer-simulated virtual world and mentions a meeting in April 2016 at the American Museum of Natural History when researchers gathered to debate this notion.

“The argument is that we are already approaching photorealistic 3D simulations that millions of people can simultaneously participate in. It is conceivable that with advancements in artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and computing power, members of future civilizations could have decided to run a simulation of their ancestors,” the report stated.

So, the firm arrived at this prognosis for humanity based on the clear advancements we are seeing in artificial intelligence, virtual reality and computing power that is already putting us in a position to create vast simulated worlds of our own.

Musk has predicted that eventually there will be no distinction between what we now experience as reality, and simulated worlds and games in those worlds. The report references Musk who has been outspoken in his belief that there is a very high probability the world is part of an artificial intelligence created by a future civilization.

Musk has said that “There’s a billion to one chance we’re living in base reality.”

The report highlights Nick Bostrom’s three probable scenarios for the human race:

  1. Extinction before reaching a “posthuman” stage,
  2. Reaching posthuman existence but not simulating evolutionary history, and
  3. We are in the matrix already.

Personally I find these pronouncements fascinating and almost inevitable. That is to say, if one is familiar with Eastern philosophies, like Buddhism. In Buddhist teachings we are told that what we take to be the real world may not be real at all, but rather distorted perceptions of reality arising from perceiving the world through our body and its senses.

Science is merely catching up with ancient Eastern wisdom. The question is, who created our illusion? Are we just puppets running around, or can we escape?
