12 simple truths about how to be happy that most of us forget too soon

So many of us struggle on a daily basis to be happy. You might seem happy and content on the outside, but on the inside you’re truly struggling.

We’re always told that if you buy a nice house, land a nice job and live the nice white-picket fence life, you’ll finally be happy. But unfortunately that’s not always how it works.

You could just be distracting yourself from the truth — the truth being that all these things aren’t what will make you truly happy.

So take a minute to ask yourself: are you happy?

Here are 12 things most people forget when it comes to happiness.

1) You Need to Be Brave.

The only way you’re going to get what you want is to be brave and take chances! You’re going to have to make yourself vulnerable and open yourself up to possible happiness.

2) Happy Doesn’t Always Equal Easy.

Following your heart won’t always be as easy as you think it is. Don’t stick to making the safe and easy choices out of fear. If you don’t do anything about your situation, it won’t ever change! Hard work will get you the life you’ve always imagined.

3) Appreciate the Small Things.

Remember when you were a kid and just picking flowers or watching the stars was enough to excite you? Try to find that childlike fascination again! Appreciate all the small and beautiful things life has to offer and don’t lose yourself in the big stuff.

4) Happiness Doesn’t Mean Always Being Happy.

Life will throw you a curveball once in awhile in your lifetime. Bad things might happiness and sadness is inevitable, but you should understand this is all part of life.

5) You Have to Go with the Flow.

Life will continue moving forward no matter what you do. Living in the past will hurt no one but yourself! Move forward and just go with the ebbs and flows of life.

6) Lift Others Up.

You can’t be happy if you’re always putting others down. Open your heart and show compassion to your fellow man, accept what you cannot change, and allow love to flow through you.

7) Don’t Compare Yourself.

You are incredible unique and one of a kind, so why compare yourself to others? Don’t worry about what other people are thinking of you. All that matters is what you think of you.

8) Be True to Yourself.

Your heart knows when you aren’t following it. It can cause a great deal of restlessness inside yourself, and that’s no way to live a happy life. Follow your heart and find your truth.

9) Enjoy the Ride.

Your experiences are what make you feel alive. You have to be willing to live through those experiences and appreciate them. Hold your head up and enjoy the human experience you’re living!

10) Do What You Want.

You can’t rely on others to make you happy. Enjoy what you do and take time to do things you want to do. Be present and let go of everything else for a little while.

11) Be Humble.

Happiness is a state of mind. You must be mindful in order to appreciate the things around you. Don’t get so caught up in the big stuff that you forget about the small things!

12) Be Accepting.

Sometimes life isn’t fair, but accepting the tough situations can be a key to your happiness. You might be disappointed sometimes, but accepting the harsh times can make them a lot easier.
